Jacksonville Golf and Country Club Memberships: What Each One Costs
Turn off San Jose Boulevard at the right driveway and you're on a Donald Ross course that has been there since 1925. Head east to Hodges Boulevard and you'll find a club Jim Furyk just redesigned, and a few minutes away, another one about to rebuild its course from scratch. Jacksonville has more private golf than most people expect, and almost none of it publishes a price list.
That makes it hard to plan a move around golf. Below is what each Jacksonville club has published or what's been reported in the local news, with the date, plus what's still a phone call. If you're comparing Jacksonville to Ponte Vedra Beach, I wrote a companion guide to the Ponte Vedra Beach clubs.
Most Jacksonville country clubs are optional and separate from the house, and most don't publish their fees. The reported numbers run from a $25,000 initiation at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club to about $100,000 at Glen Kernan, before dues. Several clubs are in the middle of big renovations, so ask every club about assessments, not just the joining fee.
How Jacksonville Clubs Connect to the House
Jacksonville's private clubs fall into two groups. Some sit inside a golf community, like Glen Kernan, Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, Deerwood, Deercreek, Queen's Harbour and Atlantic Beach Country Club. Others are stand-alone clubs in older neighborhoods, like San Jose and Timuquana in Ortega, where membership has nothing to do with where you live.
Even inside a golf community, owning a home rarely makes you a member. Queen's Harbour says its membership is limited, by invitation, and open to residents and non-residents. When Glen Kernan changed hands in 2024, the Jax Daily Record reported that membership would be open to residents and offered to outsiders by invitation only. Jacksonville Golf & Country Club had 747 members in a community of 919 homes in 2025. The safe assumption: the club is a separate decision with its own application, and you should confirm the rules for the specific street you're looking at.

Club by Club
Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club
Corner Lot and Hampton Golf bought the Glen Kernan course in January 2024 and rebuilt it with Jim Furyk redesigning the original Robert Walker layout. It reopened in late August 2025, stretched to more than 7,200 yards from the back tees. There are two membership levels, Full Golf and Sports Social. The Jax Daily Record reported in January 2025 that initiation fees were about $100,000 and that golf members need to be sponsored by an existing member. The dues range above was reported before the reopening, so ask for the current number.
Jacksonville Golf & Country Club
JGCC is a member-owned equity club off Hodges Boulevard that opened in 1989, with full golf, sports, social and junior executive memberships. Its reported initiation, $25,000 in 2024, ties for the lowest on this list, but the bigger number right now is the renovation. Members approved a $30 million plan that rebuilds the course with Staples Golf Design and adds a two-story, 18,000 square foot wellness building and a new pool. The Jax Daily Record reported assessments of $31,750 for resident golf members and $19,150 for social members, with age-based discounts. If you join or buy into the community now, ask how that assessment applies to new members.
Atlantic Beach Country Club
Atlantic Beach Country Club opened in January 2015 on the old Selva Marina property, with an 18-hole course designed by Erik Larsen, seven clay tennis courts, a pool and a fitness center. It started as a member-owned, not-for-profit club, and when it launched, lots in the community were sold with a homeowner social membership built in. The St. Johns Citizen listed a $25,000 to $75,000 initiation depending on category and $5,640 to $11,580 a year in dues in 2024.
Deerwood Country Club
Deerwood's George Cobb course opened in 1960 and hosted the Greater Jacksonville Open seven times between 1967 and 1975. It has been an equity, member-owned club since 1999. Right now it's finishing a $17.6 million capital program: the main course closes for an Erik Larsen renovation starting in October 2026, with a planned reopening in October 2027. In the meantime, members have The Approach, a six-hole short course that opened in July 2026. The club said in April 2026 that initiation fees will increase soon, without saying by how much. That's worth a call if Deerwood is on your list.
San Jose and Timuquana
These are Jacksonville's two oldest golf clubs, and neither is attached to a subdivision. San Jose Country Club plays an original 1925 Donald Ross course, restored in 2020, with 12 Har-Tru tennis courts, and membership is by invitation. In 2019, members approved a monthly assessment to pay for a $9 million renovation. Timuquana, in Ortega, was chartered in 1923 on a Donald Ross design. It has hosted USGA championships and the PGA Tour Champions' Furyk & Friends event from 2021 through 2025, before that tournament moved to Palm Coast. Neither club publishes fees.
Queen's Harbour, Pablo Creek and Deercreek
Queen's Harbour Yacht & Country Club, run by Invited, has a Mark McCumber course, a marina connected to the Intracoastal through a lock, and Full Golf, Associate Golf, Young Executive and Social categories. Pablo Creek is a Tom Fazio course that opened in 1996, with roughly 280 members in its recent filings, and it's about as private as Jacksonville golf gets. Deercreek, off Southside Boulevard, was bought by Heritage Golf Group in 2023. None of the three publishes prices.

Clubs That Look Like Golf Clubs but Aren't
Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club and the Florida Yacht Club are beautiful waterfront clubs, but neither has a golf course. Epping Forest's Governors Club membership adds privileges at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, The Lodge & Club and The River Club, and it says it has no monthly food minimum and no capital assessment fees. Hidden Hills in the Fort Caroline area stopped being a private club in 2017, when its course opened to the public.
Questions to Ask Every Club
- What is the initiation for my category today, and is any of it refundable?
- Is there an approved renovation or assessment, and do new members pay it? JGCC, Deerwood and Glen Kernan have all spent big recently.
- Do I need a sponsor or an invitation? San Jose, Queen's Harbour and Glen Kernan's golf membership say yes in some form.
- Is there a food minimum, and what are cart, locker and guest fees?
- If I buy in the community, is membership required, optional, or included at some level?
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Jacksonville country club costs the least to join?
Of the clubs with reported numbers, Jacksonville Golf & Country Club ($25,000 in 2024) and the low end of Atlantic Beach Country Club's range ($25,000) are the lowest. JGCC also has large renovation assessments, $31,750 for resident golf members, so compare the total, not just the joining fee.
Do Jacksonville golf communities require club membership?
Usually not. Clubs like Queen's Harbour and Glen Kernan offer membership to residents without requiring it, and San Jose and Timuquana aren't tied to a neighborhood at all. Atlantic Beach Country Club sold homes with a social membership included, so check the documents for the specific home.
Why don't Jacksonville clubs publish their fees?
Most are private, and many are member-owned or invitation-only, so they share fees with prospective members directly. The membership director is the only source you should budget from.
Which Jacksonville golf courses are being renovated?
Deerwood's main course closes for renovation starting in October 2026 and plans to reopen in October 2027. Jacksonville Golf & Country Club is starting a $30 million project that rebuilds its course. Glen Kernan finished its Jim Furyk redesign in 2025.
What To Do Right Now
- Pick the two or three clubs whose golf and amenities fit how you'll actually spend your week.
- Call each membership office for the current fee schedule, any assessment that applies to new members, and the sponsorship or invitation rules.
- Check whether any club you like is closing its course for renovation the year you plan to move.
- Call or text me at 904-863-6679 and I'll match homes to your club shortlist and run the full monthly cost on each one.
